THANK YOU for joining us here at Wisdom Spring and our yearly Walking for Water. Our 17th year doing this event, yet it seems like yesterday when we first gathered in Leesburg Virginia, and took our first walk around Morven Park. Now we have walks on both coasts and are closing in on our second Virtual Walk! Amazing!
At the heart of it all are our amazing teens from Virginia and California who bring this event to life every year. As much as we work to support our projects in Africa and India, we also work to support an opportunity for these teens' gifts to shine and be acknowledged. When you support Walking for Water, you support their creativity, passion, and committed hearts. Thank you!
You might not realize it, but there are many in the world without access to freshwater. For them, daily life includes walking several miles every day to collect water - usually in 5-gallon containers or large buckets.
If you've ever carried 5 gallons - it weighs about 45 lbs. Imagine walking three or more miles to your home with that on your back, or balanced on your head. Imagine that you might be young - 13 or 14 - and because you fetch water it is hard to make it to school - since most of the morning is spent walking and carrying.
This is a reality for many.
Our mission at Wisdom Spring is to help make the situation better. By creating water wells and covering tuition for children we hope to ease that daily burden. We also make sure to focus on the most vulnerable: orphans, girls, and marginalized communities - as barriers to access can be greater.
Your donation has a direct impact. Thousands over the last 17 years we have done this have felt the positive impact.
And as we mentioned above, this event happens because of the dedication and commitment of the teens from high schools in Virginia and California. We work to create an opportunity for them to gain leadership experience and learn to engage their communities in a different way. You support them too - and we thank you for it!
This year we are very excited to add a brand new aspect to our event - the fundraising platform Donor Drive and the Virtual Walking App Move Spring. We are excited to see all the possibilities these platforms will offer.
This year participants can:
And all to support impactful projects in Africa and India. Every year we work hard to find projects that support communities requesting assistance with water and education initiatives. Over the years we have seen even small amounts of funding create a lasting impact in the communities we connect to. This only happens through support from excellent individuals like you!
There are three basic ways to join in this year with the virtual event:
Do one or all three! Our hope this year is for more collaboration, community, and camaraderie to make this an event that will continue for many years to come. Better yet - you can join in from anywhere in the world! Sign up to participate through the app and walk with everyone else! Share your progress and encourage others to join. If you believe in the work of Wisdom Spring - you can show you are part of the people who care about supporting our teens and supporting others around the world.
